Black Rice also known as purple rice is an old variety of rice that is being cultivated in India in small quantities since centuries. Black rice in Ancient China was consumed only by the royalty and the common people were not allowed to consume it, giving it the name- forbidden rice.
Our black rice has been cultivated by farmers from Nadia district of West Bengal. Besides being healthy and nutritious, black rice has a delicious nutty flavour and turns deep purple after cooking.
Ingredients: Control union certified organic black rice.
No artificial or natural colours or flavours or chemicals or preservatives have been added.
Suggested Use: Black rice may be used to make several dishes- from savoury to sweet. It can be used in any rice dish.
Some of ways to use this rice are as follows:
- Mouth-watering desserts
- Healthy side-dish to grilled food
- In salads to add taste, texture, health and colour
- As filling or stuffing in wraps and other dishes
- To stir-fries
Long soak: Wash 1 cup of rice and soak in water overnight before cooking or
Short soak: Wash 1 cup of rice and soak in warm water for 6 hours before cooking. Drain the water from the soaked rice. Add the rice and 2 cups of water to a pan. Keep the pan on the stove to boil. Once it starts to boil, leave for simmer and cover the pan. Remove the lid after 15 minutes or until all the water is absorbed by the rice.
Store the rice a cool and dry place. Keep away from sunlight and moisture when stored.
