These plantable wrist bands can be used for Raksha Bandhan, friendship day or for any other occasion to express love, gratitude and build relationships.
Organic, indigenous variety of cotton grown in Paradsinga, Madhya Pradesh are pre-spun into slivers and further spun by women of Wardha on charkhas (spinning wheel) by hand to make yarn. Dyeing is done with natural colours at Wrukshatone, Erode.
Going further, wrist bands are made from the coloured yarn in Madhya Pradesh. The bands are handcrafted by 200 women in Paradsinga and surrounding 10 villages of Madhya Pradesh and Maharasthra.
After the bands are made, indigenous seeds of plants that are useful in the kitchen garden are attached to their centres. The bands are later wrapped on seed papers that are made with handmade, up-cycled and biodegradable paper.
These bands can be planted after use.
The initiative to make these bands has been taken by The Gram Art Project who have been working on promoting and growing their own desi cotton.
